2016 state aid for farmers approved

On Tuesday, January 12, the government supported amendments to the regulations on state support for agriculture prepared by the Ministry of Agriculture (MA). The changes to the regulations stipulate that the funding allocated for state support for agriculture and rural development in the form of subsidies for 2016 is 8,610,962 euros.

Taking into account the priorities set for the agricultural sector in the National Development Plan 2014–2020, the Amendment Regulations determine support measures and the funding required for their implementation.

Considering the effectiveness of the measures taken so far, the level of state support and the economic situation of the country, state support for farmers is very important in areas that would promote the viability and competitiveness of the farmer. Therefore, the funding available in 2016 is mainly intended for agricultural producers for the following measures:

  1. for the development of livestock farming – 5,517,405 euros;
  2. for the development of crop production – 614,522 euros;
  3. for international and mutual cooperation – 678,570 euros;
  4. for market promotion – 327,340 euros;
  5. for the promotion of the national food quality scheme – 50,000 euros;
  6. to finance the implementation of support measures initiated in the previous year – 1,423,125 euros.

The state budget annually provides state support for agricultural development in the form of subsidies from the total expenditures of the annual basic budget, which are covered from grants to general revenues, minus contributions to the European Union budget.

Changes to the rules will come into force after their publication on the website of the official publication "Latvijas Vēstnesis". www.vestnesis.lvMore information on amendments to Cabinet of Ministers (Cabinet of Ministers) Regulation No. 1524 of 17 December 2013 “Regulations on State Support for Agriculture” available on the Cabinet of Ministers website.
