A project competition is announced for the activity “Restoration of biologically valuable grasslands”.

The administration of the Latvian Environmental Protection Fund of the State Regional Development Agency, in accordance with the decision of the meeting of the Council of the Latvian Environmental Protection Fund (LVAF) of March 25, 2021, announces a project competition in the activity “Restoration of biologically valuable grasslands"for the implementation of natural grassland restoration activities (protected habitats of EU importance).

 

Supported within the project natural grassland restoration activities (protected habitats of EU importance) with a total minimum area to be restored within the framework of one project of at least 10 ha: (SPA – nature parks: “Abava ancient valley”, “Aiviekste floodplain”, “Dviete floodplain”, “Daugava valley”, “Engure lake”, “Kuja”, “Ogre valley”, “Pape”, “Piejūra”, “Salaca valley”, “Sauka”, “Silene”, “Svēte floodplain”, nature reserves: “Ance bogs and forests”, “Ābeļi”, “Blažģa lake”, “Burtniekas lake meadows”, “Dubna floodplain”, “Eglone”, “Sventāja river valley”, “Diļļu meadows”, “Burga meadows”, “Durbe lake meadows”, “Gudenieki”, “Lielupe estuary meadows”, “Lielupe floodplain meadows”, “Lubāna wetland”, “Mugurve meadows”, “Randu meadows”, “Rūja floodplain”, “Sātiņu ponds”, “Sita and Pededze floodplain”, “Svēte valley”, “Venta valley”, “Venta and Šķerveļa valley”, “Vidusburtnieks”, “Vidzeme rocky shore”, protected landscape areas: “Augšdaugava”, “Augšzeme”, “Kaučers”, “Veclaicene”, “Vestiena”, “Ziemeļgauja”, national parks: “Gauja National Park”, “Ķemeri National Park”, “Rāzna National Park”, “Slītere National Park”).

 

The areas to be redeveloped for the project must meet one of the following criteria:

a) the area is assessed as existing biologically valuable grassland that is of low quality and requires quality improvement measures;

b) the area is assessed as potentially biologically valuable grassland.

 

The total funding available in the competition is EUR 200,000. The maximum amount of funding for one project shall not exceed the total direct eligible costs of – 1500 EUR/hectare.

 

The project applicant (lead implementer) may be a legal entity registered in the Republic of Latvia, in whose possession or possession the project activities are implemented, in which no economic activity is carried out or planned, project activities will be implemented.

 

The project implementer must ensure that the project is implemented own investment of not less than 15 % of the total eligible costs of the project.

 

The deadline for submitting project applications is April 30, 2021.
