We discussed the activities planned in the project “LIFE CRAFT” with the Latvian Foundation for Nature and the Institute for Environmental Solutions

On Tuesday, January 21, ZSA representatives Maira Dzelzkalēja-Burmistre, Iveta Grudovska and Inga Bērziņa, as well as the owner of Z/s Vilciņi 1 Arnis Burmistris met with project managers Maija Ušča, who represented the Latvian Foundation for Nature, and Roberts Rotbergs, a representative of the Environmental Solutions Institute, to discuss the activities planned in the “LIFE CRAFT” project.

In the second half of this year, the Environmental Solutions Institute (ESI) plans to install a controlled drainage systems, to assess their impact on GHG emissions and benefits for farmers. Taking into account the experience of the Agricultural Service implementing a similar experiment within the framework of the “SmartAgriHubs” project, in which groundwater sensor measurement data evaluations are already being carried out on the farm “Vilciņi 1”, in Zaļenieki parish, its owner Arnis Burmistris introduced the process of purchasing and installing sensors and a weather station, providing practical recommendations to the LIFE CRAFT project managers. A demo version of the application developed within the SmartAgriHubs project was presented, the aim of which is to provide more detailed information about plant development and agro-ecological conditions, as well as help predict weather conditions for the coming days, allowing for prompt planning of work on the farm.

Meanwhile, the LIFE CRAFT project focuses more on adapting remote sensing monitoring tools to measure GHG emissions, which will help evaluate national policies to reduce agricultural GHG emissions. The partners of both projects agreed on further cooperation in information exchange.
