Grant for the preparation of the application for the project "Development of Renewable Energy Use in Latvia"

The association "Farmers' Council" has obtained funding from the "Project Preparation Fund" to implement the activity "Preparation of the application for the project "Development of the use of renewable energy in Latvia"".

Within its framework, from September 2007 to December 2007, the Farmers' Council, in cooperation with the Latvian State Forestry Institute "Silava", is preparing a project with the aim of promoting the use of renewable energy in Latvia, using a set of measures financed within the framework of the EEA and Norwegian Government Financial Instrument as a means of influence. The specific task of the action is to create a network of cooperation partners for the implementation of the project, as well as to prepare a project application based on the results of the research conducted within the framework of the action.
The aim of the planned project is to promote the development of the use of renewable energy from biomass in Latvia, thereby implementing complex environmental protection measures. The project will directly affect environmental protection in Latvia and around the world, promoting the use of renewable energy resources, reducing the release of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, reducing the risks of pollution from various sources (waste, manure, etc.), reducing the use of fossil energy resources, etc. The project will indirectly contribute to ensuring sustainable development in Latvia, also positively supporting the resolution of economic and social issues.
The project methodology will include a theoretical analysis of renewable energy development opportunities and subsequent practical action. The experience of other European countries will be reviewed and evaluated. The most suitable solutions, as well as development tools, will be adapted to the Latvian situation and used accordingly to achieve real results during the project.
The project will result in an increase in the number of companies in Latvian regions that use various types of biomass for renewable energy production, a decrease in environmental pollution, and an increase in public awareness of renewable energy and general environmental protection issues. Closer cooperation will be established between professionals and responsible institutions in Latvia, other EEA countries, and Norway.
The operation is supported by Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway within the framework of the EEA Financial Instrument and the Norwegian Financial Instrument, and by the State of Latvia through the Society Integration Fund in the amount of EUR 19,081.54. EUR 1,486.07 is co-financing of the activities of the association “Farmers' Council” and EUR 634.10 is an in-kind contribution.
