At the autumn exhibition in Rāmava, we discussed the damage caused by wild animals in agriculture.

On October 6, as part of the exhibition "BILTIM TEHNIKA 2023", a discussion was held at the Farmers' Council on damage caused by wild animals in agriculture: problems and possible solutions. The Chairman of the Farmers' Council, Juris Lazdiņš, outlined the situation with deer, wild boars and their impact on agriculture.

Dmitrijs Bortņikovs, Chairman of the Board of the Latvian Sheep Breeders Association, spoke about wolf damage to sheep farms. Gita Strode, Director of the Nature Conservation Department of the Nature Conservation Board, presented the damage caused to agriculture by geese and cranes and possible solutions to reduce it. Alina Čekstere, Senior Systems Analyst at JSC “Latvijas valsts meži” presented tools for recording damage and game.

The discussion continued with “Wolves, deer, wild boars and geese. How can hunting help reduce damage?” The discussion was led by Linda Dombrovska, Project Coordinator of the Hunting Club Ērgļi Association.
