Baltic Slurry Acidification project partners meeting
On February 20-22, 2017, the regular meeting of the partners of the project “Baltic Slurry Acidification” took place, organized by the Estonian Crop Research Institute (Saku, Estonia).
In Tallinn, we participated in the meeting of the project “Baltic Slurry Acidification”, which is funded by the INTERREG Baltic Sea Region Programme. The aim of this project is to reduce nitrogen losses in slurry. This is achieved with slurry acidification technology. Slurry is acidified with sulphuric acid. These technologies have been widely tested and used in Denmark, but are not so well known in the rest of the Baltic Sea Region. From Latvia, the project partners are the association “Zemnieku saeima”, LLKC and SIA “Lauku Agro”. We participated in the project in order to follow new technologies in agriculture and their practical applicability in Latvia. As part of the project, we are summarising environmental requirements related to legislation in manure management. We believe that this technology is relevant for countries with high animal density (Denmark, Germany). In Latvia, this technology could be relevant for individual farms and slurry removal service providers. The project started in March 2016 and will end in February 2019.
