On December 29, the “Zemnieku Saeima” organized a seminar “Cattle Export – Challenges and Opportunities” as part of the BreedExpo project. The seminar took place in Rožmalai, Ceraukste parish.
The seminar was opened by Juris Lazdiņš, Chairman of the Board of the Association “Zemnieku Saeima”, addressing the attendees. He was followed by the Association’s livestock specialist Raimonds Jakovickis, presenting the current situation in the beef cattle sector. After reviewing the situation, the Association’s agricultural policy specialist Valters Zelčs spoke about the current issues of the Common Agricultural Policy, available support and requirements for the implementation of eco-schemes and environmental measures. In turn, a representative of SIA Pakavs presented the opportunities and challenges of cattle breeding, based on the successful experience of dairy farming. This was followed by a discussion on investment attraction opportunities for farmers within the framework of the RSS projects, led by the Association’s agricultural policy expert Mārtiņš Trons.
After lunch, a representative of Pakavs SIA led the work in groups, during which the seminar participants agreed on the desired directions for the development of the cattle sector in Latvia and identified possible project ideas in this area.
