The winner of the farmers' competition "CALL OF ANCESTORS" has been determined
Today, October 29, the jury meeting of the competition for young farmers "Call of the Ancestors" organized by the association "Zemnieku saeima", Member of the European Parliament Sandra Kalniete and the magazine "AgroTops" took place, during which the winner of this year's competition and the recipients of the sympathy awards were determined from 16 farmers. The winner will be announced on January 10, 2015 at the "Zemnieku saeima" "Farmers' New Year's Ball" in Jelgava Castle.
Maira Dzelzkalēja, Deputy Chairwoman of the Board of the Association "Farmers' Council": "This year, the competition was held for the fifth year and I am pleased that it has gained recognition and that more and more applicants are applying every year. It is encouraging that young farmers are entering all agricultural sectors. This year, there were a lot of young farmers who had gained work experience and business ideas abroad. I believe that there are things that need to be taken over from our ancestors, but in order for us to be able to compete in the common market, it is important to gain experience in other countries as well."
Member of the European Parliament Sandra Kalniete: “This year, the competition was unusually strong, as at least seven farms applied for the award. This proves that the Latvian countryside has a future. I am glad that there are many young people who want to connect their lives with Latvia. Young people who had gone abroad for various reasons are also returning to the countryside.”
We already informed you that in September, the members of the competition jury visited the farms of young farmers to meet in person and tour the farms.
On January 10, 2015, all finalists of the competition will be invited to the “Farmers' New Year's Ball” of the association “Farmers' Council” at Jelgava Castle, where the winner will be presented with an award made by sculptor Pauls Jaunzems and a fully paid three-day trip for 2 people with participation in one of the leading European agricultural exhibitions, fairs, and events.
The competition was first organized in 2010, and over the years the winners of the competition have been Inga and Zigmunds Kalniņi from Aizpute region, Valdis Zujs from Rēzekne region, Jānis Vaivars from Skrīveri region, and Aija Šneidere and Jānis Miķelsons from Limbaži region.
