Grant to support the activities of the association "Farmers' Council"

The Association "Zemnieku saeima" has obtained funding for the implementation of its activities from the European Economic Area Financial Instrument and the Norwegian Government's bilateral financial instrument and the Latvian state budget through the Society Integration Fund. The funding was awarded in the NGO Activity Support Program competition, and is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2009.

The funding has been allocated to the association's activities to implement the following goals: improving and organizing the regulatory framework of the agricultural sector in accordance with European Union requirements and the interests of farmers, improving conditions for business activities in rural areas, preparing prerequisites for the successful implementation of European Union environmental requirements in farms, informing and educating farmers, promoting the activities of rural and agricultural NGOs, raising public awareness about rural areas and agriculture, and administering and strengthening the organization's activities.
The activities and work program of the Association are supported by this grant from Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway within the framework of the EEA Financial Mechanism and the Norwegian Financial Mechanism, and by the State of Latvia through the Society Integration Fund, financing agreement number 2007.NVOF1.1./1-5/03.
The total amount of the grant in 2007 was 7,090 EUR, in 2008 – 21,600 EUR.
