Council of Ministers expresses political support for milk producers
On October 13, the European Union's Council of Agriculture and Fisheries Ministers in Luxembourg discussed the negative impact of Russia's ban on the export of agricultural products on the dairy industries and agriculture of the Baltic States and Finland.
Most EU member states expressed solidarity with the request of the Baltic countries and Finland for the introduction of targeted measures to partially finance the losses incurred by dairy farmers in these countries. As a result of the discussion, the EU Presidency called on the European Commission to prepare a proposal for targeted, time-limited support for the most affected dairy farms. Negotiations on the amount of funding and the details of the targeted support will continue at the EU College of Commissioners on 15 October.
