Countryside Day “Biodiversity – the basis of sustainable agriculture!”

On July 3, from 11:00 AM, a field day “Biodiversity – the basis of sustainable agriculture” will take place at AREI Priekuļi Research Center, Zinātnes Street 2.

In part 1 of the event:

• Demonstration of integrated cultivation of promising, Latvian-bred wheat, oat, and barley varieties in various regions of Latvia;
• Demonstration of potato and cereal varieties bred in Latvia that are promising for organic farming;
• Demonstration of legumes, including species and varieties not traditional for Latvia, under organic farming conditions.

In part 2 of the event:

• Trial of genetically diverse barley populations;
• Research into the application of innovative dehydration technology in sapropel extraction, possibilities of using sapropel-based products in crop production and animal husbandry”;
• Development of innovative grass seed pre-treatment technology in primary seed production;
• Development of edible hemp cultivation, pre-processing technologies and improvement of product quality, improving the sustainability and economic performance of companies.
