Electrical safety for those performing economic work
Promoting public awareness of electrical safety, AS “Sadales tīkls” annually carries out various activities with the aim of informing about the dangers of electricity in the event of careless or reckless actions. One of the most important audiences is those performing economic work who use various types of heavy machinery near power lines.
In 2020, AS “Sadales tīkls” registered 770 third-party damage to the power grid, which is 3% more than last year. More than half of the damage was related to broken power cable lines, in 172 cases, overhead lines were broken, while the rest of the damage concerned power line supports and transformer points. In most cases, damage is caused by construction, agriculture, logging and other economic activities, and the most common cause of damage is uncoordinated work near the power grid. As a result, not only is the power supply disrupted for hundreds and even thousands of residents, but there is also a serious threat to the health and life of the person involved in the work - it should be noted that contact with medium voltage can be fatal to a person.
In order to reduce the number of cases of damage to the power grid, promote safe performance of economic work near the power grid, having previously coordinated them with AS “Sadales tīkls”, as well as educate those performing economic work on the correct action to take if an electrical accident occurs, information material on electrical safety has been developed.
