The Sustainable Silage Project Working Group was held in Estonia
From 2 to 4 July, a meeting of the Sustainable Silage project working group and steering group took place on the island of Saaremaa, Estonia. All project partners from Estonia, Finland and Latvia participated in the meeting. The meeting discussed the improvements needed in silage production on each farm in order to reduce silage juice runoff and produce higher quality silage. Representatives of each country’s working group presented legislative acts relating to silage production and this year’s already held and upcoming seminars and field days. We also visited three pilot farms of this project in Estonia. We visited the dairy farms “Mereranna” and “Rauni”, where silage is produced from grass and corn, and the beef cattle farm “Lümanda Beef”, where Tyrolean grey cows are bred, and sorghum is grown for silage production.
