Farmers will analyze innovative ways of water management
On March 4, at 10:00 a.m., a meeting of the “NutrInflow” project will take place in the “Pūteļkrog” in Zaļenieki parish, Jelgava region. The “Farmers' Council” association invites farmers operating in the Aile stream basin to a meeting to discuss opportunities to reduce the impact of agriculture on the environment.
The project “NutrInflow” is jointly implemented by the association “Farmers' Council”, Zemgale Planning Region, Jelgava County Council and LLU in cooperation with foreign partners, with the support of the Central Baltic Programme. The main task of the project is to search for and test in practice solutions to reduce the inflow of biogenic (biologically active) elements into the inland waters of the countries and the Baltic Sea.
In the Ailes stream basin, over the next three years, involving local farmers and the public, a series of events will be organized - training, meetings, discussions, etc., to jointly search for the most effective and at the same time economically justified solutions for reducing environmental risks. At the same time, project experts, in cooperation with farmers, will organize three technology/method demonstrations, where the economic efficiency of specific elements (e.g. two-stage ditch, wetland, etc.) of environmental protection will be tested in Latvian conditions.
On the meeting agenda:
1. Brief introduction to the project “NutrInflow” and planned events;
2. Information on environmentally friendly measures to reduce runoff in agriculture;
3. Information on the latest legislative developments;
4. Discussions on further cooperation.
Those interested are asked to register for the event by phone at 67027044 or e-mail: birojs@zemniekusaeima.lv.
