Farmers' Assembly: Check before you enjoy
Following the Russian embargo on food products, supermarket chains in Latvia are organizing information campaigns to increase the promotion of local products. The association “Zemnieku saeima” is pleased with the implemented campaigns, which help consumers more easily choose products of Latvian origin. In order to promote the successful achievement of the campaign’s goal, the organization calls for attention and reporting on campaign signs that inaccurately inform about the origin of products. The organization also calls for reporting on retail outlets that have publicly announced the implementation of campaigns to promote Latvian products, but have still not done so.
Juris Lazdins, Chairman of the Association "Farmers' Council": "We are pleased with the operationally and constructively organized information campaigns for advertising products produced in Latvia, which are currently destined for a slow death by the Russian Federation's food embargo. However, it must be admitted with regret that intentional or unintentional mistakes have occurred in the placement of promotional signs so far, as a result of which signs intended for Latvian products are sometimes placed next to imported products. In order to prevent misleading the public, I invite you to share what you have observed on social media, giving the management of store chains the opportunity to prevent possible misleading the public and Latvian patriots to purchase domestic products, behind which are countless thousands of jobs, taxes in the state treasury and the population of the regions. Similarly, it is worth reporting in cases when advertising for Latvian products is completely absent."
Member of the Board of the Farmers' Assembly Ieva Alpa-Eizenberga: "Currently, dairy farmers are losing money with every liter of milk produced. This situation has arisen because both Latvian exporting companies and Lithuanians, to whom a significant amount of Latvian milk has been sold, have lost a market for their products. Until a new solution is found for the sale of products, Latvian stores and consumers are the ones who will decide whether farmers will overcome the crisis or whether the fields will soon become even emptier. Therefore, the stores' initiative to highlight Latvian products should be supported. For us, dairy farmers, it is currently almost a matter of life and death for it to be done correctly."
The association “Farmers' Council” calls on every shop visitor to choose Latvian products and pay attention to the information campaigns placed in stores. If the advertising signs are placed misleadingly and do not correspond to the truth, or the store has not implemented these campaigns at all, we invite you to share the photos on the social portal twitter.com. When adding photos, we invite you to indicate: #pirmsbaudiparbaudi, as well as information in which store the error was discovered. Currently, the information campaigns for increased advertising of local products have been announced by the “Maxima,” “Rimi,” and “Elvi” supermarket chains, but farmers are also calling on other stores to increase their support for the sale of Latvian products.
.
We remind you that this year. On August 7, the Russian Federation imposed an embargo on food products, which has had a very serious impact on the dairy farming sector. Milk purchase prices for farms have fallen below the cost of milk. The embargo has had a similar impact on the vegetable and fruit sector. Therefore, it is currently important for Latvian vegetable, milk and meat producers to choose their products, but we urge you not to forget about other food products and other daily necessities produced in Latvia.

Rimi, Maxima and Elvi store shelves this year on September 1st.
