Farmers' Council invites to a seminar on precise feeding of cows

On February 27, the association "Farmers' Council" organizes and invites all interested parties to attend the seminar ""Precision feeding of cows – a challenge for future milk producers, environmental impact". The seminar will take place at Ozolnieki People's House, Rīgas iela 23, Ozolnieki. Starts at 10:00.

Raimonds Jakovickis, livestock expert of the association “Farmers' Council”: "Farmers will have to face several challenges in the future, such as precision technologies, reducing GHG emissions, and environmentally friendly farming. At the seminar, we will talk about precision feeding of dairy cows, its economic benefits, and environmental impact. These are all issues that dairy producers will have to face in the near future, so we invite you to take the opportunity to attend the seminar and gain new knowledge!"

Latvian Rural Consulting and Education Center Anita Siliņa, Head of the Livestock Competence Center: "The organization of feeding of dairy cows is of great importance in order to obtain high herd management efficiency. It is mainly about improving the quality of roughage, balancing the feed ration, its consistency on a daily basis, as well as regular provision of feed on the feeding table. If the feed ration is balanced and consistent (especially in a group of family farms, this is not easy to ensure, but it is possible), high feed intake can be achieved, thereby ensuring good rumen and animal health, because only a healthy animal can provide income for the farm.”

In the first part of the seminar, attendees will be able to learn about foreign experience in precise feeding of cows. Baltic Agro Group representative Vilomix Baltic will talk about the basic principles of precise feeding and precise implementation of mineral provision in dairy farming. In turn, Organe Institute representative Henning Lynsgo Foged from Denmark will inform about precise feeding of dairy cows and the Pitstop+ microelement dispenser. The first part of the day will be concluded by a representative of the Agricultural Data Center with a presentation: Transferring information from the herd to the LDC database using electronic ear tags.

In the second part of the seminar, valuable information will be provided by Latvian experts. Anita Siliņa, Head of the LLKC Livestock Competence Center, will talk about the economic impact of precision nutrition, while Silvija Dreijere, Head of the LLKC Livestock Department, will inform about the usability of feed and its impact on the environment. The seminar will be concluded by Jānis Brizga, Researcher at the Faculty of Geography and Earth Sciences of the University of Latvia, informing about the impact of dairy farming on the environment.
