The Farmers' Council invites you to a seminar on sustainable soil maintenance and plant nutrient cycling
On February 26, the association "Farmers' Council" organizes and invites all interested parties to attend a seminar “Sustainable soil maintenance and plant nutrient cycling”. The seminar will take place at Ozolnieki People's House, Rīgas iela 23, Ozolnieki. Starts at 10:00.
Iveta Grudovska, expert of the association “Farmers' Parliament”: “The participation of the “Farmers' Council” association in international projects has always resulted in tangible results that are useful for Latvian farmers. This seminar will also feature outstanding specialists from both Latvia and abroad, who will provide their insight into such an important area as maintaining soil fertility and effective plant nutrition. We especially invite those growers who are interested in soil liming to participate, as an expert from the Swedish Agricultural University will share her experience on the latest findings and trends.”
Jānis Kažotnieks, Head of the Engineering Department of the Latvian Rural Consulting and Education Center: “Although it is not easy to notice on the Latvian coast yet, the Baltic Sea is the most polluted sea in the world. It sounds crazy, but we know what needs to be done to change it. At the seminar, I will talk about one of the ways to reduce pollution that flows into or reaches the sea. Let's think together!”
In the first part of the seminar, Jānis Kažotnieks, Head of the Engineering Department of the Latvian Agricultural University, will inform about the evaluation of liquid manure acidification technologies in the Baltic Sea region. Subsequently, Valters Zelčs, a policy expert from the association “Zemnieku saeima”, will talk about the market evaluation of manure acidification technologies, while Gints Jakubovskis, a representative of SIA “Lauku Agro”, will talk about the results of demonstrations and practical experience of manure acidification technologies at the farm “Lauku Agro”. The first part of the seminar will be concluded and informed about manure emission studies, observations and conclusions in Latvia by Inga Grīnfelde, Associate Professor of the Latvian University of Agriculture.
In the second part of the seminar, Raimonds Kasparinskis, Associate Professor of the Faculty of Geography and Earth Sciences of the University of Latvia, will talk about soil information in Latvia, problems and possible solutions. Next, Kerstin Berglund, Associate Professor of the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, will inform about structured liming of agricultural soils. The seminar will be concluded by BASF expert, agronomist Ivan Brendstrup with a presentation: Nitrogen stabilizer for liquid manure and digestate “Vizura”.
Simultaneous interpretation will be provided during the seminar.
