GreenAgri Conference “Environmental Requirements and Effective Organic Fertilizer Management in the Baltic Sea Region”

GreenAgri Conference

“Environmental requirements and efficient management of organic manure in the Baltic Sea region”

15.-16.02.2016.

The association “Zemnieku Saeima” in cooperation with the Estonian Chamber of Agriculture and Commerce organized a conference “Environmental requirements and efficient management of organic manure in the Baltic Sea region countries", which was organized within the framework of the Central Baltic Sea Region Programme 2014-2020 project “GreenAgri” CB272.
Farmers in the Baltic Sea Region do not always effectively use the plant nutrients contained in organic manure, resulting in loss of yield and quality. Farmers and policy makers still have different understandings of manure management: in many cases there is a lack of information and knowledge about practical production conditions in different countries. Organic manure management is a limiting factor in negotiations between producers and officials on environmental requirements in agricultural production. To address this problem, a project on organic manure (manure) management is being launched, based on practical demonstrations on farms, knowledge transfer and cooperation.
Conference objective was to promote the exchange of experience in implementing environmental requirements, to discuss differences in environmental legislation binding on Estonian and Latvian farmers, to learn about the views of Estonian and Latvian experts on agricultural resources, as well as available organic fertilizer application technologies.
Target group: farmers, consultants, environmental specialists, students, as well as NGOs, local government representatives and other interested parties.
• On the first day of the conference – 15.02.2016, we visited 3 farms, where we learned about various organic fertilizer management technologies.
• On the second day of the conference – 16.02.2016. conference participants gained new knowledge and information about national experience in organic manure management, and about environmental legislation in Latvia and Estonia.
