GreenAgri experience exchange trip to Auci on May 30th
On May 30, 2018, the Farmers' Parliament invited members to the first experience exchange trip of this year. This time we visited two very different and interesting farms: z/s Lielvaicēni, where the owners Iveta and Artūrs Grudovski are engaged in crop production and beekeeping, and LLU MPS Vecauce, where, according to the director Indulis Ieviņš, the main industry, along with student education, is milk production. The event was organized within the framework of the Green agri project, so there was a wide discussion about the pros and cons of using manure – technologies, impact on soil fertility, costs, etc.
We also gained insight into a not-so-popular agricultural sector in Latvia – partridge farming. Māris Šermuks, the head of SIA BestBerry, allowed us to take a look at his blooming fields, gave a brief insight into partridge farming, and introduced us to products that are sold not only in Latvian but also in foreign markets.
During the meeting, representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture introduced those present to current events related to the modernization program and payments. Regarding modernization, it is planned to announce the round in the fall of 2018, with an emphasis (priority points, support intensity) on the construction of manure storage facilities to allow small and medium-sized farms to organize manure storage.
