RSS has started disbursing EU emergency aid to the dairy sector
From today, February 25, the Rural Support Service has started paying out EU emergency support to the dairy sector. The support rate is 34.96 EUR per 1 tonne of milk. In total, support will be paid to approximately 9,200 customers.
The Rural Support Service calculates and pays the support based on the data available to the LDC. Since producers do not have to apply for support in order for the Rural Support Service to pay the support, there is a requirement that the producer must be registered in the unified agricultural sector information system.
We remind you that the European Commission granted temporary emergency support to Lithuanian, Latvian and Estonian milk producers in the amount of EUR 28.7 million, of which EUR 7.7 million was allocated to Latvia, in order to respond to the market disruption caused by the Russian import embargo, which significantly reduced milk purchase prices. As a result, milk producers in all three Baltic States experienced liquidity problems. According to the draft regulations, support for milk volumes delivered for processing between August and October 2014 will be granted to producers who had a milk delivery quota and registered dairy cows or heifers older than 18 months on 1 January 2015.
