Insurance against spring frost

Over the past 20 years, spring frosts have become increasingly destructive for fruit and berry growers in Central and Eastern Europe. Therefore, it is important to understand the likelihood of this risk occurring in Latvia, as well as the possibilities to reduce losses for gardeners caused by spring frosts.

An insurance product called Frost Insurance has been developed for the spring season of 2022. It was created based on parametric insurance and in cooperation with the insurance broker IIZI, the Latvian Horticultural Institute, and BTA Insurance Company.
