International seminar “AAL spraying process and its impact on the environment”

In order not only to educate professionals about the high-quality and safe use of plant protection products (PPP), but also to promote public understanding of the processes involved in this process, in cooperation with the Latvian University of Biosciences and Technology (LBTU) Plant Protection Scientific Institute “Agrihorts”, the Latvian Rural Consulting and Education Center is organizing an international seminar “The process of spraying PPPs and its impact on the environment”.

The event will take place on October 13 from 9:00 to 16:00 at the Silver Hall of LBTU, Jelgava, Lielā Street 2. Registration for the seminar is open until October 10. The number of places is limited.

You can apply for the seminar

The seminar will introduce good agricultural practices in pesticide spraying: optimization of the spraying process, the need for regular inspection of sprayers, the main factors influencing spray drift, and what technical and occupational safety solutions can be used to reduce this drift.

Jānis Kažotnieks, Head of the Engineering Department of the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences: “It should be noted that anyone who uses PPPs or is nearby when they are used, as well as those living near agricultural areas, may be exposed to various risks in the long term as a result of poor-quality spraying. Therefore, it is important to continue educating PPP users about high-quality and safe spraying, as well as informing the public, promoting understanding of PPP use in agriculture and objective risk assessment."

The seminar will feature renowned European spraying experts from Denmark and Sweden, as well as industry specialists from Estonia and Latvia. Spraying expert Christer Johansson from Sweden will present on the optimization of the spraying process and the reduction of drift on Swedish farms. Danish expert Hans Thostrup will explain the importance of an optimal spraying process and will introduce the precise regulation of sprayers in Denmark.

A representative of the State Technical Supervision Agency will reveal the pros and cons of sprayer inspections in Latvia. Meelis Värnik, a crop production expert from the neighboring agricultural cooperative KEVILI, will also share his experience of the spraying process in Estonia.
