Meeting of farmers and industry experts in Vidzeme on July 14
On July 14, the ZSA organized a seminar for farmers and experts - a discussion "Agricultural Development Opportunities and Challenges - Coexistence of Environmental and Economic Aspects", during which there was an opportunity to get acquainted with the production challenges in farms of various sectors, as well as discuss environmental and economic challenges in the coming years.
During the trip, we visited the “Saules” farm, where the participants were introduced to the use of innovative technologies in the beekeeping industry. The farm has a solution jointly developed by Latvian scientists, technology companies and beekeepers, which allows you to monitor the beehive via a computer or smartphone. By connecting to the monitoring system, the beekeeper can follow the most important indicators – changes in the mass of the bee colony, the temperature of the brood chamber, the relative humidity in the bee nests. Video surveillance of the hive and the apiary helps to detect the flying activity of bee colonies during the day, as well as visually assess the condition of the apiary. Based on the results of the observations, the beekeeper will be able to make a decision about visiting the apiary only if necessary. The monitoring system also accumulates data on bee behavior, which will help to better care for bees and increase the productivity of the industry in the future.
