Latvian farmers are preparing to open their doors to travelers

In order to develop agritourism in rural Latvia and provide farmers with the necessary knowledge to successfully host interested parties, the association "Farmers' Council" with The information support of the rural tourism association "Lauku ceļotājs" organized seminars "How to prepare for receiving tourists" in Koknese and Tukums this week. The seminars consisted of lectures and discussions on the development of the infrastructure necessary for tourism, as well as visits to farms to practically verify the possibilities of linking agriculture with various tourism activities.

“Such seminars, in my opinion, are very valuable, because they provide an opportunity for both rural tourism entrepreneurs who are already engaged in agritourism and other farmers who are still considering such an opportunity to come together. The theoretical part of the seminar provided an opportunity to get acquainted with the rural tourism infrastructure, while afterwards farms related to tourism were visited. The contribution of the hosts was evidenced by the fact that the guests left very leisurely. While visiting the farms, the farmers provided recommendations to entrepreneurs, as well as drew ideas for the development of their farms,” Elīna Kalēja, project manager of “Lauku ceļotājs”, comments on the training.

Jānis Dzenis, the owner of the Kalnavoti holiday home, speaks about the seminars that took place. “It was a great pleasure to have the opportunity to host farmers on their farm, as well as to provide a place for mutual discussions. Often, it is farmers who have been involved in research and know best what is needed for the successful operation of farms. I think that this is a good opportunity not only for city dwellers to see what is happening in the countryside, but also for farmers themselves to gain new experience – various nuances on how to improve their farming. I invite everyone to take advantage of the opportunity and visit Latvian producing farms on October 17.”

We would like to remind you that on October 17, 2015, the “Lauku Dienu Ceļotājiem” organized by the ZSA and Lauku ceļotājas will take place. It will be a one-day event that will give everyone the opportunity to take a look behind the scenes of the countryside, and only on this one day will it be possible to enter productive farms that are not open to visitors on a daily basis. 50 agricultural companies will offer to enter their production facilities, barns, stables, warehouses, see powerful combines and tractors, see production processes and hear the stories of the owners.
