Finnish and Estonian farmers visited Latvia on an experience trip
From October 15 to 17, farmers from Finland and Estonia visited Latvia as part of the Breedexpo2 project. During the visit, the sheep breeding farm SIA “Mikaitas” was visited, where the owners Aija Šneidere and Jānis Miķelsons showed the sheep pens, looked at the sheep herds in the pastures and discussed the nuances of sheep breeding. When visiting the dairy farm ZS “Mazdzērvītes”, its owner Jānis Ločmelis showed the calf and dairy cow pens to the Finnish and Estonian colleagues and discussed the specifics of the Latvian raw milk market. When visiting the full-cycle farm SIA “Vecsiljāņi”, its manager Reinholds Sprukulis introduced the calf and dairy cow pens, the concentrated feed production plant, the biomethane production plant and the cheese production plant. We also visited the Cattle Auction House, where its manager Kaspars Ādams spoke about the beef cattle market situation in Latvia and Europe. The visit ended with a visit to SIA Lāses AM, where we viewed different breeds of beef cattle and cattle sheds, and at the end, the owner Dace Meldere organized a steak tasting for the guests.
