Latvian-grown soy + naked barley = innovation in pig feeding

We invite all interested parties to the 2021 June 2 at 9:00 a.m. participate at the online conference “Latvian-grown soy + naked barley = innovation in pig feeding”We will learn about the results of the research, hear stories of experiences from Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia and Germany, and participate in discussions with industry experts.

 

The project is nearing completion. “New technologies and economically viable solutions for local feed production in pig farming: cultivation of non-genetically modified soybeans and new local fodder barley varieties in Latvia” (EAFRD Cooperation Programme 16.1.) This interdisciplinary research project brought together 13 European Innovation Partnership (EIP) group partners – scientists, economists, industry consultants, producers, experts from the crop, feed and pig sectors – for four years of joint work.

 

Thanks to this project, extensive research on soybean and fodder barley cultivation was conducted in Stende, Viļāni, production volumes were evaluated on several farms in various regions of Latvia, as well as pig feeding research was conducted on farms using local soybean and hairy barley.
