Let's introduce young people to future opportunities and conditions in agriculture
On October 17, the association “Farmers' Council” at the Ministry of Agriculture, as part of the event SOLIS 2014 of the association “Latvian Young Farmers' Club”, is organizing a seminar for young people – “Latvian Rural Development for the Future”. During the event, it will be possible to learn the latest information about current events in support conditions for young people in rural regions for the period from 2014 to 2020, as well as meet with the Minister of Agriculture and representatives of farmers' non-governmental organizations.
The Minister of Agriculture will address young people at the seminar and answer questions of interest. Janis Duklavs, while associations "Farmers' Assembly" leadership will inform about the role of organizations and farmers' non-governmental organizations in shaping agricultural policy both in Latvia and in Europe.
Juris Cīrulis, Deputy Chairman of the Board of the Association "Farmers' Council": "In 1914, the then editor of the Baltic Farmers' Association magazine "Zeme" Kārlis Ulmanis wrote in one of the magazines that people should be incorruptible, firm against the temptations of wealth, honest in both small and large matters. Their efforts should reach beyond the bounds of self-interest and must be manly in work and tireless in failure. They must not be guided by dual virtues - one in private life, the other in public life, and who place the public good above their own interests. They must be sober and not bend their knees to alcohol. In short - we need people more than statutes and instructions.
"Exactly 100 years have passed, but time has not faded the meaning of the words. The foundation of every country is its people, and our young people are its continuation. If their goal is the life lessons of Kārlis Ulmanis, then everything will be fine with our country and agriculture."
Minister of Agriculture Jānis Dūklavs:"I am always pleased to meet young people who connect their future lives with farming in the countryside. I invite young people to actively engage in rural entrepreneurship, because there are and will be opportunities. When developing the new Rural Development Programme for 2014-2020, attention has been paid to supporting young farmers. The new Rural Development Programme provides for several support measures that most directly apply to young farmers. European Union support is intended for everyone – small, medium and large farms. I would like to thank the Farmers' Council and the Young Farmers' Club, which support the involvement of young people in agriculture, organize educational events for young people on current topics in agriculture and opportunities to work in the countryside and to establish their own farms and businesses, and successfully develop them.”
The relevant experts will inform the attendees about the opportunities for young people in the new planning period. The Director of the Rural Development Department of the Ministry of Agriculture will inform the young people about the Rural Development Programme 2014-2020. Liene Jansone.
