Letter to Riga City Council regarding short-term measures for the delivery of grain and rapeseed harvest to the Port of Riga
Taking into account that the harvest season is approaching for farmers and part of the grain and rapeseed harvest grown in Latvia is exported through the Port of Riga, as well as the fact that the ban on the movement of heavy trucks, which was temporarily lifted in previous years, did not cause any complications for city traffic, the association "Farmers' Council" has sent a letter to the Riga City Council with a request to allow the movement of heavy trucks to the Port of Riga around the clock from July 25 to November 1 this year on the following routes:
- On the section of Akmeņu Street from Mūkusalas Street to Jelgavas Street;
- On the section of Daugavgrīvas Street from Ranka Dam to Lidoņu Street;
- in the section of Jelgavas Street from Akmeņu Street to Vienības Street;
- in the section of Mūkusalas Street from Kārļa Ulmaņa Street to Akmeņu Street;
- Ranka Dam;
- in the section of Valguma Street from Akmeņu Street to Uzvaras Boulevard;
- in the section of Vienības gatve from Jelgavas street to Kārļa Ulmaņa gatve;
- on the November embankment;
- On the section of Eksporta Street from Muitas Street to Riga Passenger Port;
- On the section of Krasta Street from the Island Bridge to 13. January Street;
- On the section of Victory Boulevard from Akmens bridge to Valguma street;
- On the Stone Bridge in both directions.
We call on the Riga City Council to make an understanding decision on this issue, because farmers need to harvest grain and rapeseed quickly, and therefore it is necessary to deliver the harvested crop to cargo ships in the Port of Riga as quickly as possible. Making such a decision could also contribute to better utilization of the Port of Riga and an increase in its capacity for grain and rapeseed transshipment.
We'll keep you posted on the Riga City Council's response!
