LLKA invites you on an experience exchange trip
LLKA invites applications for an experience exchange visit by November 30th to the cooperatives "Mežsaimnieks" and "Durbes grauds"
The Latvian Association of Agricultural Cooperatives (LLKA) invites foresters, farmers, media representatives and other interested parties to apply for an experience exchange trip to the cooperatives "Mežsaimnieks" and "Durbes grauds" by November 30 of this year, which is scheduled for December 5 of this year.
In order to assess the growth and development of cooperatives, the Latvian Cooperatives Association has been organizing experience exchange visits to Latvia's largest cooperatives for the second year in a row.
The visits scheduled for December 5 will take place at the two largest cooperatives in Kurzeme – the forestry services cooperative society (MPKS) “Mežsaimnieks” and the agricultural services cooperative society (LPKS) “Durbes grauds”.
MPKS “Mežsaimnieks” is the first cooperative in the forestry sector established in 2012. Although it initially united forest owners only in the Kurzeme region, over time forest owners from all regions of Latvia have also become its members. During the meeting in Alsunga, Grigorijs Rozentāls, the head of the cooperative “Mežsaimnieks”, will tell interested parties about the idea of establishing the cooperative and its rapid growth and development directions. A tour of the Cooperative Grove is also planned.
“To popularize the idea of cooperation, in 2013, as part of the Forest Days, we planted a Cooperative Grove in Alsunga. Over the past five years, the birch trees have grown considerably and serve as a unique testament to the development of forest cooperation in Latvia,” says Grigorijs Rozentāls, chairman of the board of the cooperative “Mežsaimnieks”.
In turn, Sandris Bēča, Chairman of the Board of the cooperative “Durbes grauds”, will present to the participants of the visit the advantages of the cooperative, which help its members – grain growers – in their daily work and in promoting the development of their farms. “The cooperative “Durbes grauds” turned 15 this year. I am pleased that during these years 180 farmers have evaluated the activities of the cooperative and joined it, and their number continues to grow. In total, the members of the cooperative manage about 30,000 hectares of land. Using European Union funds, investments in the amount of several million have been made in the cooperative,” notes Sandris Bēča, head of the cooperative.
Since the trip to the cooperatives is planned by bus and the number of places is limited, we ask those interested to apply by November 30th of this year by calling 25445450 (Sanita) or by writing electronically to e-mail office@llka.lv.
