LV On March 2, the annual congress of the association "Farmers' Council"
This year, on March 2, the Ādaži Cultural and Creative Education Center will host the annual congress of the association “Farmers' Council”, which will bring together farmers from all over Latvia. At the congress, agricultural producers will be informed about current events in the industry, look back on what was accomplished in 2014, set new goals for the coming years, and elect the new board and chairman of the board.
The annual congress of the Farmers' Council is a point of reference where farmers evaluate the work done in the development of the sector and determine the priorities for the coming year. The congress will be opened by the Prime Minister Laimdota Straujuma and Minister of Agriculture Janis Duklavs.
DNB Bank economic expert in the first part of the congress Peter Strautins will provide her independent expert's perspective on the agricultural sector. In order to keep farmers informed about current events in all major agricultural sectors, the Deputy State Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture will inform about the development trends and expected challenges in the dairy and meat production sectors Rigonda Krieviņa, while the chairman of the board of the KS "Mūsmāju dārzeņi" Edith Strazdina will introduce the development of the fruit and vegetable production sector. Also, the General Director of LPKS "Latraps" Edgars Ruza will provide a report on the situation in the crop production sector, as well as outline the main development directions for the coming years.
In the second part of the congress, the organization's management will report on the achievements of 2014 and set new goals for 2015. The congress will also host the elections for the chairman and board of the "Farmers' Council", which, according to the organization's statutes, take place every two years. The organization's board consists of nine board members, including the chairman. Currently, the chairman of the board of the "Farmers' Council" is Juris Lazdiņš (Zemgale), while crop production is represented on the board Arthur Stone (Latgale), Mareks Berzins (Vidzeme), Arnis Mayor (Zemgale), Aivars Tron (Latgale), dairy farming Ieva Alpa – Eizenberg (Vidzeme) and Juris Cirulis (Zemgale), meat farming Kaspars Sunins (Curzeme), while rural development is represented by Maira Dzelzkalėja (Zemgale).
