January 23rd ZSA seminar on manure management

On January 23, the association “Farmers' Council” in cooperation with the State Plant Protection Service organizes and invites you to attend a seminar: “Latest insights into manure management and its value.” The seminar will take place at Ozolnieki People's Hall, Rīgas Street 23, Ozolnieki. Starts at 10:00.

The previous year was very productive for the association "Farmers' Council" - with the completion of several international projects, interesting data, new insights and useful conclusions were obtained regarding manure management.

Intelligent storage and spreading of manure not only reduces potential damage to nature and the Baltic Sea, but also provides plants with nutrients - thus reducing the need for mineral fertilizers, giving a positive economic effect.

However, management must be smart – that is why we invite you to a seminar where experts from the State Plant Protection Service, LLU, LLKC and the Farmers' Council will share their knowledge.

We invite representatives of farms and educational institutions interested in effective manure management, as well as institutions responsible for monitoring the use of organic fertilizers, to participate in the seminar.

The seminar will be opened and informed about the activities of the MANURE STANDARDS project, the first real and expected benefits, by Skaidrīte Rulle, Director of the Agrochemistry Department of VAAD. In the continuation of the seminar, VAAD Chief Expert Lauris Leitāns will inform about the results of manure sample testing, calculations and comparison with regulatory standards., as well as explaining how to properly take manure samples and a video will be shown. The first part of the seminar will be concluded by LLU prof., Dr.habil. Aldis Kārkliņš with presentation: Potential losses of plant nutrients from manure.

In the second part of the seminar, Skaidrīte Rulle will talk about the regulatory requirements for the use of manure and their implementation in 2018. Next, experts from the association “Zemnieku saeima” Iveta Grudovska and Valters Zelčs will talk will present current events in the GreenAgri and Baltic Slurry Acidification projects.

Director of the LLKC Kaspars Žūriņš will inform about the situation with organic fertilizer management in Latvia, while Jānis Kažotnieks, Head of the Engineering Department of the Latvian Agricultural Research Centre, will evaluate the most suitable technologies for spreading manure.
