An online conference “Latvian-grown soybeans + naked barley = innovation in pig feeding” was held
On June 2, an online conference “Latvian-grown soy + naked barley = innovation in pig feeding” took place. Four years of research into the possibilities of growing and using soy in Latvia have resulted in a number of innovative solutions that we want to share. The conference will provide an opportunity to familiarize yourself with the research results, listen to experience stories from Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia and Germany, and participate in discussions with industry experts.

The event was organized by the Latvian Agricultural Society, the Institute of Agricultural Resources and Economics (AREI) and the Latvian Pig Breeders Association. The event was organized by the project “New technologies and economically viable solutions for local feed production in pig farming: cultivation of non-genetically modified soybeans and new local fodder barley varieties in Latvia” (EAFRD Cooperation Programme 16.1.) This interdisciplinary research project brought together 13 European Innovation Partnership (EIP) group partners – scientists, economists, industry consultants, producers, experts from the crop, feed and pig sectors – for four years of joint work.
Thanks to this project, extensive research on soybean and fodder barley cultivation was conducted in Stende, Viļāni, production volumes were evaluated on several farms in various regions of Latvia, as well as pig feeding research was conducted on farms using local soybean and hairy barley.
