Opportunity for young people with primary school education – profession “Agricultural Mechanization Technician” in Saulaine

Starting with the 2021/22 academic year, the Saulaine territorial structural unit of the Kandava Agricultural Technical School offers a new secondary vocational education program “Agricultural Mechanization Technician”. The Saulaine territorial structural unit is the only vocational education institution in Zemgale, where future leaders of the agricultural sector will be able to acquire this specialty after the 9th grade.

An agricultural mechanization technician is a profession in which, in addition to knowledge and skills about agricultural machinery, a young person learns the basic processes of farming, as well as the basics of crop and livestock farming, work planning and organization. An agricultural mechanization technician works independently with agricultural machinery and equipment, performs mechanized crop, horticultural and livestock farming work, performs troubleshooting, technical maintenance and defect elimination of agricultural machinery and equipment, plans and organizes the technical support of an agricultural enterprise.

It is important that the professional qualification requirements have been developed with the involvement of farmers' organizations and farmers themselves. Anyone who wants to become an expert in the operation of powerful Latvian agricultural machinery - a manager or even a leader - can become an agricultural mechanization technician.

During the training process, the young person also obtains a TR2 category tractor and a B car driver's license, and depending on their performance, they may be eligible for a scholarship of up to 150 euros.
