Farmers will be partially compensated for losses caused by the rains

The Ministry of Agriculture has prepared a Cabinet order on the allocation of financial resources from the state budget program "Funds for Unforeseen Events", which the government approved on Tuesday, October 24.

After heavy rains in August and September, a state of emergency was declared in 29 regions of Latgale, Vidzeme and Sēlija. Large areas of crops, hay and apiaries were destroyed in the floods. The government decided to provide support to farmers by partially compensating for their investments.

The order provides for the allocation of EUR 14,981,908 for compensation. This money will be allocated: EUR 14,870,323 to partially cover farmers' losses, EUR 98,300 to cover the unforeseen administrative costs of the Rural Support Service, which were incurred by the survey of flood-affected areas and the collection of data, and EUR 13,285 for additional administrative costs of SIA "Latvijas Lauku konsultāciju un izgļitbildības centrs", which were also incurred by the survey of flood-affected areas and the collection of data.
