Pitstop+ project trip to Denmark
From July 9 to 10, we participated in a project meeting in Denmark as part of the “Pitstop+” project. The association “Zemnieku Saeima” was represented in the project by livestock expert Raimonds Jakovickis. Also participating from Latvia at the meeting were Indulis Ieviņš (SIA LLU MPS “Vecauce”) and Mārtiņš Ozols (zs “Rudeņi”). SIA LLU MPS “Vecauce” and zs “Rudeņi” farms participate in the project as partners, where “Pitstop+” troughs are being tested. Representatives from the countries involved in the project – Lithuania, Germany, Denmark and Scotland – participated in the meeting. The progress of the project was discussed at the meeting, each participating farm was presented, and all current practical and technical issues were discussed.
During the trip, we visited the innovation center of the dairy cooperative ARLA in the Danish city of Aarhus. ARLA is one of the largest dairy cooperatives in the EU and the 4th largest in the world, uniting 11,200 members from countries such as Denmark, Sweden, Great Britain, Germany, Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands. The cooperative ARLA has created its own quality program “Arlagaarden”, which provides consumers with high-quality milk. We also had the opportunity to visit the Danish premix production plant A/S “Vilomix Denmark”. Vilomix is part of the Danish Agro group and employs 530 people. The products are exported to more than 20 countries. The company owns 9 factories, 2 in Denmark and Poland, there are also in Sweden, Norway, Finland, Latvia and Russia, and sales representatives also in Ukraine, Vietnam, Serbia and Romania. We also visited Damgaard Andersen's farm, where Jersey dairy cows are raised. The number of dairy cows is around 160. The farm uses a Pitstop+ feed trough to supplement the cows' feed ration with mineral supplements.
