Seminar "Current Issues and Future Challenges in Agriculture" in Aloja
The seminar was opened by Maira Dzelzkalēja-Burmistre, Deputy Chairwoman of the Board of the Association "Zemnieku saeima" and briefly spoke about the current state of the CAP in environmental issues.
Subsequently, the Baltic Slurry Acidification project experts Maira Dzelzkalēja-Burmistre, Mārtiņš Trons and Valters Zelčs informed about the environmental requirements for manure management and the ways of using acidification technologies to reduce nutrient runoff. The seminar participants were introduced to the project booklet in Latvian (published by the association “Zemnieku saeima” and the project booklet in English, prepared and published by the project partners). The experts recognized the slurry acidification technology as one of the nitrogen emission reduction measures that farmers will have to take into account.
The seminar continued with a discussion of current issues related to plant protection and the use of fertilizers, which were informed by Tatjana Saričeva, Senior Inspector of the Vidzeme Regional Department of the State Plant Protection Service, while the seminar was concluded by Ingrīda Meldere, Deputy Head of the Vidzeme Regional Department of the State Plant Protection Service, with a presentation: Seed certification, seed circulation control.
