Seminar "Current Issues and Future Challenges in Agriculture" in Zaļenieki
On February 5, the association “Farmers' Council” organized a seminar: “Current Issues and Future Challenges in Agriculture.” The seminar took place at Zaļenieki Commercial and Crafts Secondary School, Zaļenieki.
At the seminar, the board members of the association “Zemnieku saeima” Maira Dzelzkalēja-Burmistre, Arnis Burmistris, as well as the agricultural policy expert of the Zemnieku saeima Mārtiņš Trons informed about the challenges of the near future for Latvian farmers, the work done and to be done by the organization, domestic policy issues, as well as European policy regarding agriculture. The organization’s management also informed about the results of the Baltic Slurry Acification project as one of the nitrogen emission reduction measures that farmers will have to take into account.
Valija Barkovska, deputy director of Zaļenieki Commercial and Crafts Secondary School, provided information about the school and the programs available there. In turn, the seminar was closed and the head of the Zemgale regional department of the State Plant Protection Service, Aija Čonka, and senior inspector Laima Borovika, spoke about the current affairs of the State Plant Protection Service.
In the second part of the seminar, the attendees went to SIA “Mežacīruļi”, where they learned about slurry management technology, watched demonstrations, and toured the farm.
