Seminar “Improving the quality of beef cattle herds”

On October 4, the association “Farmers' Council” and the association “Beef Cattle Breeders' Association” (GLAB) held an online seminar “Improving the Quality of Beef Cattle Herds”. The seminar took place as part of the project “BreedExpo”.

 

The seminar was opened by Raimonds Jakovickis, livestock expert of the association “Zemnieku Saeima”, chairman of the board of the association “Meat Cattle Breeders”. Certified veterinarian Lauris Štelfs spoke about measures to improve the health of the beef cattle herd. Kristīne Ādama, member of the board of GLAB, LDC – specialist in cattle genetic evaluation of the breeding department, presented a more detailed introduction to genetic selection.

 

Next, Ieva Krakopa, cattle nutrition consultant at IK “Konsultācijas”, presented the basic principles of feed and nutrition for raising high-quality young cattle. Finally, Ieva Freidenfelde, member of the GLAB board and LGLA breeding specialist, spoke about breeding in beef cattle herds.
