LV Seminar “Nutrient and Manure Management on a Dairy Farm”
On June 26 of this year, a seminar was held in Pūre, Tukums region: “Nutrient and Manure Management on a Dairy Farm”. In the first part of the event, visitors had the opportunity to get acquainted with farming practices and organic manure management at the Tukums municipality farm SIA “Vārpa”. The seminar continued with Maira Dzelzkalēja – Burmistre, an agricultural expert at the association “Zemnieku saeima”, providing information about the calculation tool – data calculations for each animal category and one type of manure (determined by housing technologies) in order to obtain both aggregated data on the number of all manures and more detailed data on each animal category and type of manure, which should be used for table values. In the continuation of the seminar, the owner of the “Vaidelotes” farm and a member of the board of the association “Zemnieku saeima”, agronomist Arnolds Jātnieks, spoke about nutrient calculations using the fertilization program. The seminar was concluded by Līva Norkārkle, public relations specialist of the association “Zemnieku saeima”, who spoke about soil and manure sampling, the guidelines developed within the project, and a video presentation.
The event concluded with a visit to the farm “Tiečas”. The owner, Aldis Stepanovičs, talked about improving the soil with nutrients.
