The 2020 agricultural census continues

The Central Statistical Bureau (CSB) has launched the autumn phase of the 2020 agricultural census data collection, which will continue with online data collection and interviews.

The CSB would like to thank the 12,000 farms that have already provided the information required for the 2020 Agricultural Census. This census requires data from approximately 75,000 farms. The CSB launched the online data collection for the 2020 Agricultural Census on April 15.

“Unlike the previous agricultural census in 2010, filling out the questionnaire in this census is three times easier – we do not ask for information that is available in various agricultural registers to be provided repeatedly, it is already at our disposal. Time must be spent to fill in approximately a third of the census information that is not available in any state register. I invite you to be responsive and actively participate, because the results obtained will provide an informative basis for the development of agriculture in the country in the next decade, therefore the participation of farmers in the census is particularly important,” emphasizes Armands Plāte, Director of the Agricultural and Environmental Statistics Department of the Central Statistical Office.

The agricultural census will not require the provision of data that is already in the Rural Support Service's Integrated Administration and Control System EU Direct Payments Database for more than 50 thousand farms. Similarly, information that is in the Agricultural Data Centre's (ADC) Agricultural Animal Register, the ADC Organic Farming Information System and the ADC Housing Infrastructure Register will not be requested again.

Information must be provided to all agricultural holdings engaged in agricultural production – managing agricultural land or raising farm animals, or maintaining land in good agricultural and environmental condition, regardless of whether they manage land they own or lease from other farmers and obtain production for both their own consumption and for sale.

Starting this week, a CSB interviewer or a rural development specialist from the Latvian Rural Consultation and Education Centre will contact the farm to obtain 2020 agricultural census information about the farm. Agricultural census data can also be submitted online e.csb.gov.lvby logging in with your existing username and password, or become a system user by registering.

  1. The collection of data for the 2019 agricultural census will continue until December 22.

The Central Statistical Bureau (CSB) calls on farmers to be responsive and submit information from the 2020 agricultural census. The agricultural census will provide the basis for this decade's information on the agricultural sector and will serve for sector analysis and decision-making, as well as for the planning and implementation of agricultural policy and rural development in Latvia, the European Union, as well as the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP), and will be an important basis for determining support.

Current information about the 2020 agricultural census is available on the CSB website csb.gov.lv/lauki2020 .

CSB specialists will answer questions about filling out the questionnaire by calling the toll-free number 80202808 on weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. or by e-mail. ls2020@csb.gov.lv.
