The annual congress of the "Farmers' Council" will be held in Ādaži on Monday.
This year, on March 2, the Ādaži Cultural and Creative Education Center will host the annual congress of the association “Farmers' Council”, which will bring together farmers from all over Latvia. At the congress, we will discuss current events in the industry, look back on what was accomplished in 2014, set new goals, and elect the organization's new board.
The annual congress of the "Farmers' Council" is a reference point where members of the organization evaluate the work done and determine the priorities for the next year.
This year the congress is organized in two parts. Let's start with the conference "Agricultural sector in Latvia – where we are and where we are going next". The Prime Minister will address the audience at the opening of the event. Laimdota Straujuma, Minister of Agriculture Janis Duklavs and Chairman of the Farmers' Assembly Juris Lazdiņš. The conference will feature leading Latvian specialists talking about current events in all major agricultural sectors. DNB Bank economics expert Peter Strautins will provide her independent expert's perspective on the agricultural sector. The Deputy State Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture will inform about the development trends and expected challenges of the dairy and meat production sectors Rigonda Krieviņa, while the chairman of the board of the KS "Mūsmāju dārzeņi" Edith Strazdina will introduce the development of the fruit and vegetable production sector. Also, the General Director of LPKS "Latraps" Edgars Ruza will assess the situation in the crop production sector, as well as outline the main development directions for the coming years.
The conference will be followed by a congress, where the current board will report on its activities to date, and, like every other year, we will elect the new leadership of the "Farmers' Council".
Juris Lazdiņš, Chairman of the Board of the Association “Farmers' Council”: “The Farmers’ Council is a strong and constructive organization representing farmers, which actively participates in the economic and political life of Latvia, providing its own – professional – perspective on the development processes of the agricultural sector and rural regions. Two productive years have passed and this year the elections for the organization’s board and chairman will take place. I am pleased with the activity of the farmers and the interest they have already shown in getting involved in the management of the organization. Active activity, by participating in the board or acting as an expert in the field, gives any member of the Farmers’ Council the opportunity to put their knowledge to use and implement ideas, while also improving the work of the organization.”
The congress will elect 8 board members and a chairman. Currently, the chairman of the "Farmers' Parliament" is Juris Lazdiņš (Zemgale), while the board of directors consists of Arthur Stone (Latgale), Mareks Berzins (Vidzeme), Arnis Mayor (Zemgale), Aivars Tron (Latgale), Ieva Alpa – Eizenberg (Vidzeme), Juris Cirulis (Zemgale), Kaspars Sunins (Courland), Maira Dzelzkalėja (Zemgale).
