The Farmers' Assembly will meet with Minister of Environment, Rural Development and Rural Development Romanas Naudiņš

Tomorrow, April 16, the leadership of the association "Farmers' Council" will meet with the Minister of Environmental Protection and Regional Development (MARAM) Romanas Naudiņš, to discuss the issues within the competence of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Rural Development that farmers encounter in their daily work and their possible solutions.

The meeting will take place at 09:00 at the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Regional Development, Peldu Street 25, Riga.

.

Juris Lazdins, chairman of the association "Farmers' Council", admits: "This year, the 10-year transition period ended, during which livestock farms had to build manure storage facilities. The restructuring and modernization of production has not gone as smoothly as planned, so during the meeting with the minister we will discuss how it is possible to jointly solve this problem. Also, with the changing agricultural policy and requirements of the European Union (EU), it is relevant to make adjustments to the Protection Zones Law so that our farmers can make the most of the opportunities provided by the EU and at the same time protect the environment. During the meeting, it is also planned to discuss planned investments and possible cooperation between farmers and the municipality on the issue of rural roads, because the development of regions depends on rural roads."

.

Minister of Environmental Protection and Regional Development Romāns Naudiņš emphasizes before the upcoming meeting: "Agriculture is a very important sector of the Latvian economy. It is the largest land user, food supplier, one of the main providers of employment in rural areas, as well as a maintainer of the quality of the surrounding and rural environment. Therefore, it should definitely be one of the priority sectors of our country."

The agricultural sector is developing every year, however, it still has a relatively low competitiveness compared to other EU countries. Therefore, it is important to identify the significant production resource problems and opportunities, which, if appropriately addressed or utilized, could improve the situation in agriculture and increase the efficiency and competitiveness of agricultural production.

"To discuss the most pressing issues in the industry, a meeting will be held tomorrow with representatives of the "Farmers' Council". A meeting with the "Latvian Sheep Breeders' Association", as well as representatives of other associations, is also planned in the near future."

.

The discussion will be attended by the Chairman of the Farmers' Council Juris Lazdiņš, Deputy Chairman Maira Dzelzkalēja, and Board Member Mareks Bērziņš.
