Juris Lazdiņš will continue to lead the association "Farmers' Council"

Today, the 16th congress of the association "Farmers' Council" took place at the Ādaži Cultural and Creative Education Center “Agricultural sector in Latvia – where we are and where we are going next”. Event gathered more than 200 farmers from all over Latvia and was opened by Prime Minister Laimdota Straujuma and Minister of Agriculture Jānis Dūklavs. At the congress, farmers learned about the current situation in all major agricultural sectors and elected a new board and chairman of the board.

According to the organization's statutes, elections for the board and the chairman of the board are held every two years. This year, the chairman of the board was re-elected Juris Lazdiņš (Zemgale), while the following will work on the board for the next two years: Maira Dzelzkalėja (Zemgale), Ieva Alpa – Eizenberg (Vidzeme), Edith Strazdina (Vidzeme), Mareks Berzins (Vidzeme), Juris Cirulis (Zemgale), Uldis Krievārs (Vidzeme), Arthur Stone (Latgale), Arnis Mayor (Zemgale), while the candidates for board members are Gints Gžibovskis (Vidzeme) and Arnolds Jātnieks (Zemgale).

DNB Bank economic expert in the first part of the congress Peter Strautins provided her independent expert's view on the agricultural sector. The Deputy State Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture informed about the development trends and expected challenges in the dairy and meat production sectors Rigonda Krieviņa, while the chairman of the board of the KS "Mūsmāju dārzeņi" Edith Strazdina presented the development of the fruit and vegetable production sector. Also, the General Director of LPKS "Latraps" Edgars Ruza evaluated the situation in the crop production sector, as well as outlined the main development directions for the coming years.
