The Farmers' Council will participate in the international conference: "Information Systems in Agriculture and Forestry 2014"

At the beginning of next week, from September 15 to 17, an international conference on the use of open innovation in agriculture and forestry of information and communication technologies (ICT) will be held at the premises of the Latvian University of Agriculture (Lielā iela 2, Jelgava). "Information Systems in Agriculture and Forestry 2014" (Information Systems for Agriculture and Forestry, ISAF).

 .

ISAF is an international forum where scientists and practitioners, owners and consultants, politicians and civil servants meet and discuss. The conference's mission is to promote the implementation and use of ICT open innovations in agriculture and forestry, thereby increasing the profitability and productivity of the sectors while protecting the environment. On September 15, our Deputy Chairwoman Maira Dzelzkalēja will give a presentation at the conference, while the study trip will be to the farm of our board member and owner of the “Vilciņi -1” farm, Arnis Burmistras, in Zemgale.

Three main discussion topics have been outlined for the ISAF 2014 conference: precision agriculture, the use of open data and spatial information, and the application of space technologies in agriculture and forestry (conference program available here). The opportunities provided by open innovation are already being used today, for example, in global positioning systems (GPS). But in the future, open innovation may become indispensable in activities such as effective crop management, soil condition diagnostics, field data collection, mapping, product traceability, machinery management and control, etc.

The conference is organized by the Czech Center for Science and Society (Czech Center for Science and Society), Latvia University of Agriculture, Baltic Open Solutions Centerr, Technology Development Forum, WirelessInfo, CSITA and the club Ossiach (Club of Ossiach).

.

ISAF conferences have traditionally been held in the Czech Republic since 2004, and initially one of their tasks was the introduction and development of precision agriculture, which could be achieved by creating a discussion space for researchers, technology developers and their users. There was no conference in 2012 and 2013, but in 2014 it was decided to hold it in Latvia - a country with developed agriculture and interest in new technologies. From now on, the ISAF conference will be held in a different country every year.
