Agricultural cooperatives – the most effective model in the regions

The Ministry of Agriculture, implementing a campaign to promote agricultural cooperation, has prepared information for farmers and foresters about cooperation opportunities. The aim is to promote farmers' and foresters' understanding and knowledge of the advantages of cooperation in order to motivate them to form new cooperatives or join an already operating cooperative, thereby promoting the development of cooperation in Latvia.

Small and medium-sized farms in the regions can achieve the best results by becoming a member of an agricultural cooperative. A cooperative is also an ideal solution for forest owners who help with forest cleaning, maintenance or the sale of grown timber. Last year, the total turnover of the 51 eligible cooperatives exceeded 450 million euros, compared to 436 million euros the year before.

The main benefits of joining a cooperative:
• materials and raw materials necessary for farming at the lowest prices;
• a sales market and higher prices for the produced products are ensured;
• exchange of experiences, education, recreation, culture and entertainment opportunities;
• possibilities for processing purchased products;
• stability and profit in the long term.
