The State Labor Inspectorate is preparing for inspections

The State Labour Inspectorate (hereinafter – the Labour Inspectorate) informs that thematic inspections have been initiated in agricultural enterprises regarding compliance with the requirements of labour protection regulations.

.

Agriculture, as one of the oldest and most stable economic sectors, is one of the long-term pillars of the national economy. Therefore, it is important that those working in the sector have safe and healthy working conditions. It is essential that the agricultural sector has trained and knowledgeable employees who are able to increase labor productivity, contributing to the development of the company and the entire country.

.

According to the Labor Inspectorate, last year the number of fatal accidents in the agricultural sector increased 3 times and the number of serious accidents increased by 66%. The most common causes of accidents include insufficient attention, unsatisfactory instruction and training of employees, failure to comply with occupational safety regulations or instructions, inappropriate use of work equipment, as well as failure to comply with electrical safety regulations, resulting in electrical injuries. Therefore, when visiting companies, inspectors will check whether the working environment is safe, whether a work environment risk assessment has been carried out, whether employees have been trained in safe working methods, how labor protection requirements are observed in workplaces, when working with work equipment, and other essential labor protection requirements.

.

As the more active agricultural work season begins, the Labor Inspectorate calls on employers to make sure that the employees in your company have received annual training this year, are informed about existing risk factors in the workplace, work with tested and safe equipment, and have undergone mandatory health checks. Compliance with the requirements of the regulatory enactments regulating labor protection is the responsibility of every employer. We invite you to make sure that labor safety requirements are met and to eliminate deficiencies without waiting for a visit from the Labor Inspectorate, so that inspections proceed as smoothly as possible and the Labor Inspectorate does not have to apply any penalties.

.

Wishing you a successful and safe business operation,

Director of the State Labour Inspectorate R. Lūsis
