The Ministry of Transport has finally heard the farmers!

Today, on the Latvian Radio 1 morning program after 07:00, Minister of Transport Anrijs Matīss was a guest, who admitted that the funds saved this winter will be directed to improving local roads leading to farms and country houses.

Juris Lazdins, chairman of the association "Farmers' Council", admits: "Finally, we have been heard and the Ministry of Transport has realized that rural roads are in a catastrophic state. We are pleased with the minister's decision to reallocate winter funding to local rural roads and hope for quick action from the ministry!"

This year was an unexpected situation – there was very little snow and frost, so savings were made on both snow removal in the winter and pothole repair in the spring, so the Ministry of Transport plans to direct the saved funding to improving local roads.

As Minister of Transport Anrijs Matīss admitted in a morning interview: "Local roads have had very little activity to improve them, and funding has been limited, so this is a great opportunity to improve the local roads that lead to farms and country houses."
