A seminar/farm day “How to get good corn silage” was held in Vecauce

On October 10, 2023, a seminar “Sustainable Silage” was held at Vecauce Castle as part of the project “Sustainable Silage”.How to get good corn silage” The seminar was followed by a field day.

The seminar featured presentations by Anna Prokhorova, who spoke about the basic principles of corn cultivation and variety selection in Latvia. Later in the seminar, Ieva Krakopa spoke about how to ensure good corn silage quality, followed by a presentation by Pēteris Dambergs about the challenges in corn silage preparation. Ērika Freimane and Inese Rafaela spoke about how corn has grown this year on the farm SIA “Vecauce” and about the latest variety offer from the company “Rapool”.

After the seminar, the visitors went to the dairy farm “Līgotnes” of SIA “Vecauce”, where a field day was held. During the field day, they could get acquainted with corn seeders, see how corn is compacted in the process of making silage. Putting corn silage in a tunnel was also demonstrated. Project experts evaluated the quality of the chopped silage. In field conditions, they could see demonstrations of corn chopper machines.
