Visit to Liepāja wastewater treatment plant within the framework of the NENUPHAR project

To find out in detail how sewage sludge is successfully composted in Latvia and to discuss how to successfully incorporate it into the soil and what else needs to be done in the field of sewage sludge composting, we visited Liepāja on February 9.

The visit was organized by the Latvian Water Supply and Sewerage Enterprises Association (LŪKA), colleagues from the Latvian University of Biosciences and Technology (LBTU) also went with us, and we were kindly welcomed by the Liepājas ūdens team.

During the visit to the Liepāja city wastewater treatment plant, wastewater treatment plant specialists introduced us to the wastewater sludge treatment process, as well as their composting experience. We discussed possible cooperation and ways to improve and monitor compost to ensure the greatest possible contribution to agricultural lands. At the end of the meeting, we went to see composted wastewater sludge in the field.
