Voting for the best cooperative of the year has begun

Voting will take place from today, December 7 to January 22, 2016, to determine the winners of the competition "Best Agricultural/Forestry Cooperative of the Year" organized by the Latvian Agricultural Cooperative Association (LLKA). The competition is taking place for the sixth year, and its goal is to determine the best Latvian cooperative that, by implementing the idea of cooperation, has gained the recognition and trust of farmers/foresters.

Everyone is invited to vote for their favorite cooperative on the website balso.llka.lv. After the results are summarized, the best agricultural and forestry cooperatives will be determined in three groups – the group of large cooperatives with a turnover of 1.5 million EUR and more, the group of medium-sized cooperatives – from 301,000 EUR – 1.5 million EUR and the group of small cooperatives – with a turnover of up to 300,000 EUR. According to the competition regulations, you can vote every day for at least one cooperative from the groups of small, medium and large cooperatives.

Additionally, the competition includes a nomination for "Growth Cooperative of the Year", where a jury of industry experts will evaluate cooperatives based on economic indicators for 2015, such as the increase in the cooperative's net turnover compared to the previous financial year, the number of members compared to the previous financial year, projects submitted or already launched by the cooperative, etc.

Indulis Jansons, Chairman of the Board of the Latvian Agricultural and Forestry Cooperatives: "Voting for the best agricultural or forestry cooperative is a kind of indicator that reflects the daily activities and activities of the cooperative and its members at the end of the competition. It is truly gratifying that the number of cooperatives that are included in the group of medium or large cooperatives by turnover increases every year, which indicates growth and development."

The competition has become a long-awaited event among Latvian farmers. Over the years, many cooperatives have won laurels in the competition, including such well-known agricultural cooperatives as "Piena ceļš", "LATRAPS", "Straupe", "VAKS", "Durbes grauds", "Viļāni", "Zaļais grozs", "Mūsmāju dārzeji", etc.

The Latvian Farmers' Association calls on all farmers to be active and participate in voting, supporting their cooperative and thus promoting its recognition among other farmers and foresters.

This year's laureates will be honored on January 29, 2016 at Bīriņi Castle.
